Associate Professor, Painting & Drawing
Baochi Zhang was born and raised in China. He received his formal art education there shortly after the Cultural Revolution ended. In 1986, Zhang received a fellowship from Florida State University and completed his MFA degree in 1990. Following graduation, Baochi taught sculpture at the University of California at Davis for nine years. Currently, he is an Associate Professor of Painting and Drawing in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of New Mexico. Although Baochi was primarily educated as a painter, his work has taken the form of sculpture in various mediums, installation, and digital art as well as painting and drawing. Baochi has always incorporated traditional with experimental; he sees himself as a traditionalist and an experimental artist at the same time.
