Kevin Mulhearn

Born and raised in New Jersey, Kevin Mulhearn attended Haverford College, receiving a BA in History. After serving as a Congressional speechwriter and working in various capacities at museums in New York, including at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the International Center of Photography, he attended the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, earning a PhD in Art History. He specializes in contemporary global art with a particular interest in the history of photography in Africa, especially South Africa. He has taught in South Carolina at the University of South Carolina Upstate, Converse College, and Wofford College, and in Illinois at the University of Illinois. His most recent publication is “Mikhael Subotzky: Picturing Prisons and Interrogating Freedom,” which appeared in the journal Photography and Culture (2015). He currently teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the history of photography.
