The exhibition Honoring Loss, features the artwork of eighteen New Mexico artists who were selected by jurors Angie Rizzo and Gigi Yu, Ph.D. from over forty submissions who responded to the prompt, what does loss provide? The exhibiting artists include Alisha Anderson, Ellen Babcock, Matthew Bollinger, Marina Brownlow, Laura C. Carlson, Jon Carver, Juliana Coles, Alyssa Eble, JC Gonzo, Harley Kirschner, Sarah McHarney, Hollie Putnam, Angelika Rinnhofer, Nancy Sutor, Victor Teng, Corn Wagon Thunder, Amy Traylor, and Jerry Wellman. Loss is a universal tenet of human existence that is at once personal and collective. This essential human feeling is uncomfortable and painful, yet, can be regenerative. As 2020 progresses into its waning months, it feels a good time to contemplate loss as this year brought so much of it. The artists in this exhibition respond to the concept of loss as personal, collective, and contemporary to current events in a variety of mediums from drawing, assemblage, to video.
