Visiting Artist Talk with Harry Gamboa Jr: L.A. Double-Crosswalks

Harry Gamboa Jr. is known for his multifaceted roles as an artist, author, and educator. As the founder and director of the international performance troupe Virtual Vérité (2005-2017) and a co-founder of the influential East Los Angeles-based performance group Asco (1972-1985), Gamboa Jr. has played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of performance art. He is currently a faculty member of the Photo/Media Program at the California Institute of the Arts. Gamboa Jr.’s art works have been acknowledged and celebrated through numerous exhibitions at prestigious institutions worldwide, including the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, and the Museum Ludwig, among others. His contributions to art and education have been recognized with awards from the Rockefeller Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and a commendation from the County of Los Angeles, showcasing his profound impact on both the local and international art communities.
