a.r. havel presents a historical camp exhibition of photographs and ephemera compiling research from the infamous Sissies performance troupe from San Anto, Texas. The installation features collaged photographs from the last rehearsal process of the Sissies’ ultimately unstaged play “The Butcher of Las Sirenas,” wherein a lowly casta painter chases the myth of mermaids to an abandoned island off the Gulf of Mexico. Neither the play’s (anti)hero nor the performance’s punk players have been the subject of an exhibition or any real historical archive.
