Artist Statement:
Blowing pen ink onto the page with a straw after work is where it began for me. The simple act of splattering ink onto paper was the first step I took towards pursuing a career in art through painting. I was shy to paint, intimated even, however creativity could not be stopped. Now all I do is paint.

I use acrylic paint to build up the surface and then use oil to establish my composition. The composition naturally appears the more I work the surface with chaotic lines that run through the canvas. The chaos comes from pondering the devious behaviors of humanity. When I start to focus on the figures that appear from the lines in the composition, I revisit the lines, giving them purpose and life. The figures cultivate from contemplating human tragedy. These tragedies are from my own personal observation or events that I have studied from the history of man. To complete the piece, the lines and figures will be obscured into abstraction with bright colors.

Though displaying a depiction of calamity in vibrant colors may seem misleading, it invites the viewer to assess the context of the painting without being jarred by the image. I hope that when this engagement happens it makes an impression in their lives.
